Though there are still travel restrictions due to the coronavirus, which prevented a rise in the number of incoming tourists and visitors, Domestic Tourism has indicated a rise lately.
One of such occasions where Tourism and accommodation service providers experienced an influx of domestic visitors was during the Lockdown exercise imposed recently.
For Roderick Bay Beach Bungalow in Ngella Central Province, visitors and clients have responded effectively to Lockdown packages introduced by the Accommodation which resulted in all rooms and bungalows being fully booked out, according to Director, Patrick Sara in an interview recently in Honiara.
“We promoted our Lockdown Accommodation packages with Tourism Solomons Online.
“In a matter of hours, all available rooms and bungalows were all booked out and some of our other clients and visitors who enquired a little later were unable to stay with us since we are fully booked,” Mr. Sara said.
In addition, he also revealed that apart from income revenue generated during the Lockdown Exercise by Roderick Bay Accommodations, Locals from surrounding villages have also benefited greatly from the Lockdown packages being introduced under his directorship.
“Visitors to our beach bungalows, also visited communities surrounding us and purchased fresh local produce like Pana, Potatoes, and fish plus other products such as carvings and crafts, thus really contributes to helping the communities earn a little income,” He said.
Patrick expressed that he is happy that locals in the villages around Roderick Bay Beach Bungalow were also able to generate a little income to sustain their livelihood.
It is understood that many local visitors have flocked local tourism accommodations in and around Honiara City as well as those out in the provinces hence, promoting domestic tourism in the country.
