PS Barney Sivoro Opened the 44th Independence Day Arts Exhibition
PERMANENT Secretary of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Barney Sivoro officially opened the 44th Independence Day Arts Exhibition in the National Arts Gallery during a launch this morning.
Among those who attended were the President of the Solomon Islands Artists Association, Robert Au and its artist members, to witness the launch.
As the new PS of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Sivoro said he was pleased to be invited to open the art exhibition and to meet the individual artists.
“Our creative sector is one of the untapped things we have, “he said.
And it’s one of the drivers of economic growth, even now is in the informal sector.
He added that the Ministry of Culture and Tourism through the National Arts Gallery recognizes the need for the artisans to move into the formal sector.
The COVID-19 pandemic has affected not the tourism sector only. But also in the creative industry, where the artisans were not able to sell their products.
Now the country is slowly recovering, and the plan and the work to support the creative industry is put in place.
Deputy Curator of the National Arts Gallery, Julie Fakaia said the art exhibition will be open for public viewing from tomorrow, July 7 for two weeks.
