Regina Vouza Honors WWII Heroes, Inspires Solomon Islands Youth

MS. Regina Vouza, granddaughter of Solomon Scout Sir Jacob Vouza, honored the bravery and loyalty of Solomon Islanders during World War II in the recent ceremony held at Commonwealth Street in Honiara to commemorate the 82nd Anniversary of the US Marine Landing on Guadalcanal.

Ms. Vouza delivered a moving speech, highlighting the bravery of Solomon Islanders who fought despite the war’s devastation, highlighting the dedication of their people.

“Our people fought bravely and remained loyal even in the face of overwhelming adversity,” she declared, recalling the chaos of war and the resilience with which her ancestors stood firm.

Ms. Vouza highlighted the significant role of Solomon Islander women in sustaining families and communities during the conflict, highlighting their often overlooked contributions.

“Our women took on the responsibility of guiding food supplies and caring for the young and elderly amid the chaos,” she noted.

Ms. Vouza urged the youth of the Solomon Islands to embody the values of her grandfather, Sir Jacob Vouza, based on his legacy.

“My grandfather’s sacrifice, courage, and loyalty to the country are something you should follow.

“Think of others before yourself, and be proud of our nation and its past. Be strong for freedom and justice for all,” she urged.

The ceremony honored the Solomon Islands’ enduring spirit, celebrating past bravery and inspiring future commitment, with Ms. Vouza’s tribute urging generations to carry forward their ancestors’ spirit.
