SOLOMON Airlines with 30 Local Tourism Operators along with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the National Government is looking to revive the ‘Umi Tugeda Holidays’ Program.

This was according to the National carrier’s Chairman, Frank Wickham in a Press Conference on Thursday.

The ‘umi Tugeda Holiday’ Specials is the Solomon Islands’ largest domestic tourism initiative created by Solomon Airlines in partnership with Tourism Solomons and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

The year-long program which started in March of 2021 lapsed in March 2022 and during that time, prices were slashed in half.

Mr Wickham said despite flying being limited currently because of COVID-19 rules, Solomon Airline Twin Otters were once again flying to more than 20 destinations in the country and they are looking to restart the Holiday program.

“We joined with 30 local tourism operators and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Solomon Islands government to restart the ‘Umi Together Holidays’ programme.

“We have ongoing discussions with the government now to see how we can continue with that – with the Public Service Commission availing the opportunities for their staff to travel to other parts of the country for their holidays, using this under this special package,” Mr Wickham said.

The holiday specials have remained on sale until 28 February 2022 for travel through to 31 March 2022. Over 50 accommodation operators are participating in the campaign which offers savings of up to 50% at accommodation around the country combined with Solomon Airlines discounted airfares.
