Solomon Airlines Supports Passenger’s Emotional Journey to Honor WWII Hero
SOLOMON Airlines recently had the profound honor of assisting an 85-year-old British passenger, Brian Hill, in fulfilling a deeply personal and emotional journey to honor his father, Frank Hill, a WWII hero who lost his life during the Ballale Island massacre in 1943.
Brian Hill, born in March 1939, embarked on this significant journey after uncovering the true circumstances of his father’s death in 2020. Frank Hill, born on 4th July 1918, served with the Royal Army Medical Corps and was reported missing after the fall of Singapore to the Japanese in February 1942. Despite being presumed killed in action, it was later discovered that Frank Hill had survived the initial attack, only to be captured as a prisoner of war and tragically killed on Ballale Island.
Determined to pay tribute to his father, Brian traveled thousands of miles from the United Kingdom, accompanied by his daughter, Natalie, to visit the remote WWII Memorial on Ballale Island. The journey was an opportunity to place a plaque and lay a wreath in memory of his father and the many others who perished during the war.
Solomon Airlines, deeply moved by Brian’s story, made special arrangements to ensure that his journey was seamless and meaningful. Despite the challenges of coordinating such a trip, the airline’s team worked together to provide Brian with the opportunity to fulfill his lifelong dream during the flight’s brief 20-minute turnaround at Ballale Island.
