Two Female Join Panpipe Group

THE Momotu Panpipe cultural group from the Isabel province had recently included two female dancers in the group.

 

At the 2nd Mini Panpipe Festival held in Honiara last month, the Momotu panpipe group from Isabel province ignited a wild roar of celebration from the crowd, as their 2 female members performed panpipe blowing and dancing.

 

A rare seen indeed, these two women surprised the crowd, since the art has never been performed in public by women.

 

But the two females who joined the group had proven that women and girls can also involve in such activity.

 

The two dancers Amelia Thapo 23 and Lency Noguara 35 said they were both interested in the music of panpipe and got involved with the group in 2015.

 

“Back in our village when the men and boys from the panpipe performed during cultural activities or on special occasions it really grew on us and therefore we decided to join the group,” said Ms. Amelia Thapo.

 

Amelia and Lency stated they both loved performing with the group on such occasions.

 

Motu Panpipe Cultural group performed mostly Isabel province custom songs composed by their ancestors.

 

The Motu Panpipe group had previously performed at the inaugural 2019 Mini Panpipe Festival and this year was their second participation at the event.
