Young Entrepreneur Turns Passion for Hiking Into Growing Eco-Tourism Venture in Central Guadalcanal

At just 25 years old, Riley Joe from Central Guadalcanal is turning his love for nature into a growing small eco-tourism business. He runs Soel Mountain Tours, a local tour business initiative that promotes hiking, eco-tourism, and environmental awareness.

Riley’s journey started from his simple passion for hiking. “I love walking in the mountains and capturing the beauty of nature,” he said. Soon, he decided to combine his interests in filming and photography to share the stunning views of his homeland with others.

With only a mobile phone and internet data, Riley began posting pictures and videos of the unique bat cave and other breathtaking sites on social media. His posts quickly caught attention, especially from young people, and that’s how he started gaining clients.

Riley said his biggest motivation is to involve youths and landowners in eco-tourism activities. “I want young people in my community to take part in tour guiding and protecting our environment. The landowners own most of these beautiful sites, so I work with them,” he explained.

Looking ahead, Riley hopes his business will inspire leadership among young people. “If I continue with my touring business, I believe the idea to build tour guides and youth leaders will grow,” he shared.

Riley is also passionate about protecting the environment. “I’m not a fan of logging,” he said. “When we search for riches, we lose the real diamond. It’s our responsibility to keep our places.”

Despite facing many challenges, Riley remains positive. “I love what I’m doing, and that keeps me going,” he smiled. So far, he has organized about 50 trips this year, and his business is now officially registered.
