Ambassador Mose Visits Fiji Pavilion In Dubai
SOLOMON Islands Commissioner-General to the Expo 2020 Dubai, His Excellency Ambassador Moses Kouni Mose paid a courtesy visit to Fiji’s Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates H.E Naipote Tako Katonitabua at the Fiji Pavilion on Sunday 10th October 2021 to convey his very best wishes to the chiefs and people of the Republic of Fiji on the country’s 51st Independence.
In welcoming CG Mose, H.E Katonitabua reflected briefly on the many varying degrees of challenges that Fiji has had to go through during the Covid-19 and how the country has been able to withstand the impacts of the pandemic through resilience and a desire to collectively progress as a nation.
“Our ability to be able to be present at the Expo Dubai 2020 is attributed to the commitment initially made by Prime Minister Hon. Josaia Voreqe Bainimarama in enhancing our bilateral relations with the United Arab Emirates and to use the opportunity as part of our ‘Pacific Vuvale’ in engaging further with our multilateral partners”.
Ambassador Katonitabua added that the ‘Buy Fijian Made’ promotional labels were intended to build a stronger sense of loyalty amongst our Fijians to buy their own creations to support all jobs, not just for now but also for future generations, and that it simply reflects the concept of thinking globally but acting locally.
With Prime Minister Bainimarama having been the President of COP 23, climate change is a major concern for the nation and like all small Pacific islands, it is particularly vulnerable to the threats of increasing global temperatures, including rising sea levels, increased frequency of extreme tropical cyclones and flooding, and depletion of coral reef ecosystems and fish stocks, thus the need for Small Island Developing States (SIDS) like Fiji to remain committed to supporting Climate Change mitigation initiatives.
Ambassador Mose in thanking H.E Katonitabua for the facilitation said that the Solomon Islands amongst other neighbouring Pacific Island countries, were always grateful to the Government and people of Fiji for the opportunity given to many to be educated and work and that it was always important that we continue to support each other in whatever way possible.
“Excellency, it is my privilege to once again wish the chiefs and people of Fiji a Blessed 51 years of Independence, and may we continue to remain engaged as fellow Pacific Island nations”.
Ambassador Mose also presented a Solomon Island necklace to H.E Katonitabua and his wife Madam Tamarisi Katonitabua.
