International Visitors Arrivals Dropped

INTERNATIONAL arrivals in the country have dropped pettily in the first quarter of 2019 compared to the 2018 latter (last/final) quarter, the Solomon Islands National Statistics Office (SINSO) revealed.

SINSO revealed that though a total of 11,849 tourists visited the country in the quarter, a decrease of 23.0 per cent was noted compared to the previous quarter, which is the fourth/final quarter of 2018.

Government Statistician, Douglas Kimi said that a decrease of 2.2 per cent was also recorded compared to the same quarter a year ago.

Mr. Kimi said of the total arrivals, visitors made up 51 per cent of arrivals for the first quarter, followed by returning residents with 48 per cent of arrivals and the remaining 1 per cent were intending residents.

“Compared to the 2018 fourth quarter figure of 6,711 visitors, a decrease of 10.3 per cent from the 2019 first quarter total arrivals (11,849) to 6,019 visitors was noted. There was also a 4.4 per cent decrease in visitor’s arrivals from first quarter 2018 to first quarter 2019,” Mr. Kimi said.
