ISHMAEL Sodu, from West Ngella, Ravu Village at Sandfly in Central Islands Province is now working his way onto the local tourism map.

Ishmael, 33, who currently engages in organising cruise trips to Central Islands Province (CIP) is an inspired youth with vision to get involved in the tourism industry and hopefully start a home-stay in two years’ time.

Since recently purchasing a brand new YAMAHA Outboard Motor (OBM) and a 60 horse-power engine, Mr Sodu earlier organised an Easter Cruise to Ngella islands and also a trip to ‘Savo Sunset Lodge’ on June 10 during Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee being a success.

“With the transportation that I have, it is like a catalyst to tourism in the islands. It has always been my dream to assist in any way to improve the level of tourism in CIP.

“When I bought my new OBM, the thought that came to me was this is the chance or opportunity to show the people how beautiful our islands are,” said Sodu.

From small experience, Sodu said people seem to be not much aware of CIP as well which could mean that there are not enough advertisements over the islands and destinations.

“This is an area of concern to improve on as Central Province is by far one of the most beautiful places in Solomon Islands and a hotspot for tourism activities,” said Sodu.

“In the next 10 to 15 years’ time, it is my plan to expand into a resort. That is my aim and vision.

“My suggestion is, we need more boat trips and weekend cruises. People who have OBMs need to cooperate and work together to arrange more similar activities. We do not need to wait for authorities for directions and plans.

“The CIP Provincial Government need to invest more on tourism.

“Tourism Operators needs to improve the level of service in their existing facilities. Customer service too is much needed by tourism operators. It is how we serve our guests that matters.

“Currently I am planning on doing more boat cruises on a weekend basis in the coming months. It is good the borders will be reopening on July 1. Very soon I am starting my small company to be named ‘CIP Cruise Travel Services’.
