New Aviation Complex Tender
THE Second Solomon Islands Roads and Aviation Project (SIRAP2) has begun the tender process for the design and construction of a new aviation complex building at the Honiara Airport.
The new aviation complex building will house various departments and divisions within the Ministry of Communication and Aviation (MCA), the Civil Aviation Authority of Solomon Islands, and Solomon Islands Airport Corporation Limited.
It will also provide office spaces for Immigration, Customs, and Biosecurity. This facility is expected to significantly improve the operational efficiency of the aviation stakeholders and provide a better working environment for the staff.
The SIRAP2 aviation component – implemented by MCA with financing from the World Bank – is aiming to enhance the climate resilience and safety of the aviation sector in Solomon Islands.
The Ministry has opened international competitive procurement processes for eligible firms as specified in the World Bank’s Procurement Regulations. The bidding process will close on July 15, 2024.
“We look forward to seeing the construction begin on this new office, which will undoubtedly improve the operations of the ministry moving forward,” said Mr. Alwyn Danitofea, Permanent Secretary of MCA.
“We acknowledge and thank the World Bank for its ongoing support through SIRAP2 to the aviation industry,” he added.
Beyond the new aviation complex, SIRAP2 is supporting several other significant infrastructure projects including: the construction of four new bridges in Malaita: Kolofe1, Kolofe2, Su’u Harbor, and Bira Bridges; upgrading roads in Noro; upgrades to Honiara and Munda Airports, as well as Santa Cruz (Lata) Airfield; investments in air navigation systems in Makira-Ulawa and Temotu Provinces; and support for regional airport maintenance.
