A fishing competition is underway for the upcoming Easter celebrations at both ‘Tulaghi’ and ‘Double Island’ in Central Islands Province (CIP).

CIP’s Tourism Division and Central Provincial Government (CPG) are working closely with Pacific Casino Hotel and Ngella’s ‘Double Island’ owner Mr. Michael Leong (MT Enterprise) who is the main sponsor of the event for the competition to take place.

It is understood that the idea is well supported by the CPG purposely to support the drive behind CIP’s local tourism during this current Coronavirus (Covid-19) situation.

Since Covid-19 has affected the local revenue, CIP’s Culture and Tourism Division Officer Ms Alison Tovongo explains that the idea of this event is to stimulate the local economy and to bring people out.

Apart from the fishing competition, a beach volley ball competition and other Easter fun games such as a half marathon, swimming and canoeing competition will also be hosted at Tulaghi.

“For now, we have less than a month to prepare for the event, so the CPG team has been working tirelessly to make arrangements, arrange prizes, registrations and all that,” said Tovongo.

Tourism operators in and around Ngella are requested by CIP’s Tourism Division to create a special Easter weekend package, and that is if they want their accommodations to be included in the upcoming event.
