Solomon Airlines Staff Visit Kokonut Pacific On ‘World Coconut Day’

Solomon Airlines staff were invited on a field trip to mark 2 September World Coconut Day and see how Kokonut Pacific Ltd turns Solomon Islands coconuts into numerous by-products for local and export sale.

The 21 staff saw how four stages of production, starting with how coconut oil is extracted in the villages and is then transported to Honiara for testing and grading at the warehouse.

Next, they saw how Kokonut Pacific makes soap in the processing plant, a hands-on process to ensure employment for local people. Finally, they saw a range of coconut oil end products for sale in the Kokonut Pacific shop.

World Coconut Day was first observed in 2009 by the Asia Pacific Coconut Community (APCC) to draw attention to the value of coconuts and their influence on society not only as a healthy food source but also as an essential crop contributing to economies around the world.

Since then, the UN-ESCAP (United Nations Economic and Social Commission for the Asia Pacific) has authorised the APCC to organise this day annually to promote their programmes, commemorate the course of action for promoting the fruit, and raise awareness of its health advantages.
