Solomon Islands Engages Further with Russia at Expo 2020

IN Russia’s bid to engage further with international partners on the margins of the Expo 2020 Dubai, an Outreach Session was organized this week by the Russian Far East and Arctic Development Corporation at the Russian Pavilion further aimed at fostering stronger relations between international stakeholders attending the Expo 2020 Dubai.

The Far East and Arctic Region holds a dominant position in the production reserves of diamonds, coal, zinc, copper, and other precious metals and offers a unique chance to Pacific Island countries like the Solomon Islands to access large world deposits and develop them, assist prospective investors in embracing and adopting the theme of developing the energy infrastructure using global distributed generation and renewable energy technologies, to present the investment potential of the macroregion and to apply the best practices of foreign countries in addressing the issues of energy supply in remote areas.

DCG Marita in discussions with Russian officials present said that the Solomon Islands was keen to develop closer economic cooperation by establishing diplomatic relations with major economic powers like the Russian Federation.

Russia is the largest country in the world by way of size and reputation as a global superpower. After emerging from the cold war era, Russia is now opening up to the world and making clear its new visions for re-engagement with the global community for a better future. Despite the vast contrasts between Russia and Solomon Islands, there are potential opportunities which the two countries can join together in partnership and cooperation in the area of trade and investment.
