To highlight Solomon Airline’s 60th-anniversary year the airline is proudly celebrating some of our national carrier’s longest-serving staff from 26 to 42 year’s service – starting with Timothy Neuwa.

As a young boy growing up in Honiara and in the small Fijian village of Draubuta, Timothy Neuwa probably never imagined a career flying the Solomon Islands skies.

“I‘m part Solomon in the Reef Island Temotu Province and part Fijian from Tailevu,” he said.

“My wife is Gilbertese, and we are proud parents of two daughters and a son.

Today, as a long-term staff member with Solomon Airlines, and with youngsters of his own, Timothy is a fine example of how consistency can lead to a steady career path.

“Be humble, ask questions, and trust in your colleagues” are his advice to any young person aspiring to work in the aviation industry…regardless of where they start.

These are the lessons learned from day one when he started his own career as a flight attendant with Solomon Airlines in 1997.

In 2008, after 12 years of flying internationally, Timothy accepted an opportunity to transfer to the airline’s Corporate Safety and Security Department based in its Honiara headquarters.

Today he plays a vital role as the national carrier’s Aviation Security Coordinator.

“This year is my 26th proud year with Solomon Airlines, “he said.

“Throughout my career, the things I most enjoy about my work are definitely the friendship and respect shared with other staff members, and the environment of our workplace,” he said.

“We are never still for long, as change is constant in the aviation industry and personally, I welcome the new challenges and always the satisfaction of achieving the targets we set,” he said.

“Most importantly, to achieve a long career you must work hard and reliably, love your job and be prepared to constantly learn and improve.”
