WITH less than four weeks to go the Central Islands Province is looking forward to an exciting tourism event that will be hosted at Tulaghi in coming August.

This year’s 2022, Central Islands Province’s (CIP)  tourism event of ‘Tulaghi Challenge’ will be hosted again for the second time on August 10, followed by a ‘World War II (WWII) History Cruise’ to Tulaghi to be hosted on August 11.

‘Tulaghi Challenge’ will involve a mini-triathlon of three combined sports of ‘swimming, canoe racing, and a marathon’.

The Tourism Division of CIP updated that the whole event will be the same as last year except for this year, the registration fee will be $50.00 per team of 5 people ($10 each person).

Senior Tourism Officer (STO) of CIP’s Tourism Division Ms. Alison Tovongo said in terms of prizes, they are still sorting things out so she will not be able to comment on that at this stage, however, the registration date will be open soon sometime next week.

“In terms of sponsors, the CIP tourism Office here in Tulaghi would like to thank MCT [Ministry of Culture and Tourism], ‘Tourism Solomons’ and GTS [Guadalcanal Travel Service] for assistance to carry out these two events. Huge thank you to our main sponsors for their continuous support and working together to develop tourism in CIP.

“To those who wish to take part in the upcoming event, you must register your team for the ‘Tulaghi Challenge’, said Tovongo.

An open market day will begin on August 10 as well, where all tourism operators and artists can set up their stalls at the famous ‘Tulaghi sea wall’.

‘Tulaghi Challenge’ is a tourism event that was hosted for the first time in 2021 between June 27 and 29.
