Ender Champions Eco-Tourism as a Way Forward for Solomon Islands

ENDER Rence, founder of Go Solomons Tour Company, is promoting green eco-tourism in the Solomon Islands, aiming for a greener and more responsible tourism industry.
In an exclusive interview with TOURISM MEDIA, Mrs. Rence detailed her vision and commitment to steering the tourism industry towards a greener and more responsible future.
Being a voice for the change in the eco-tourism sector in the country, Ender stressed the critical role of environmental preservation and sustainable development.
“Eco or sustainable tourism offers a positive way forward,” Mrs. Rence said.
Mrs. Rence’s vision for eco-tourism is comprehensive and community-focused.
“It’s not just about reducing carbon footprints but also about enriching visitors’ experiences with genuine, local stories and traditions.
“It’s about preserving our environment and sharing our local, authentic, and personal experiences. Visitors want to come and hear our personal stories,” she explained.
According to Mrs. Rence, the success of this green eco-tourism initiative, and it lies in collaboration.
“Collaboration across the sector and region is key.
“By working together and maintaining consistency in our ecotourism efforts, we can protect our beautiful islands and create a sustainable future for everyone,” she said.
Ender Rence, of Go Solomons Tour Company, was one of three women-owned tourism operators who attended the Global Sustainable Tourism Summit in Brisbane, Australia, organized by Ecotourism Australia from June 4 to 6, 2024, with the aim of building knowledge on sustainable tourism and fostering connections with industry counterparts.
The inaugural summit brought together over 200 experts and speakers from Australia and the region, representing sustainable tourism operations and destinations. Ecotourism involves responsible travel to natural areas that aim to conserve the environment, sustain the well-being of local communities, and provide interpretation and education.
“By attending the summit, we were able to learn more about industry best practices, connect with tourism leaders and sustainability experts, and understand ways to strengthen our own eco-tourism hospitality and guided tour offerings.”
