Pacific Tourism Delegates Welcomed as Friends and Family in Solomon Islands
HONIARA, Solomon Islands – Pacific tourism delegates have been welcomed with open hearts to the Solomon Islands, with Minister of Culture and Tourism Hon. James Bonuga calling on visitors to feel at home as they gather to discuss the future of tourism in the region.
Speaking at the official opening reception at the Pacific Crown Hotel in Honiara yesterday evening, Mr Bonuga welcomed delegates, development partners and tourism industry representatives attending the SPTO Pacific Tourism Meeting.
He said the Solomon Islands was pleased to host visitors from across the Pacific Blue Region, describing them as friends and family.
“You are our friends, you are our family, and we welcome you with open hearts. We hope you will feel at home,” Mr Bonuga said.
The minister also welcomed the Prime Minister, fellow ministers, council members, secretariat representatives, development partners and tourism industry stakeholders who attended the reception.
He said the meeting was an important opportunity for Pacific countries to strengthen relationships, share ideas and work together to address challenges facing the tourism industry.
Mr Bonuga expressed confidence that the discussions would help build stronger partnerships and improve cooperation among Pacific nations.

He said the reception was also a chance for delegates to reconnect with old friends, exchange experiences and make new connections before formal discussions began.
Beyond the official meeting, he encouraged delegates to enjoy the evening’s entertainment and take time to meet and talk with one another in a relaxed atmosphere.
The minister also thanked the organisers, sponsors and industry partners whose support helped make the reception possible.
For the Solomon Islands, hosting the meeting is an opportunity to welcome regional partners while strengthening its relationships with other Pacific countries.
Tourism remains an important area for cooperation across the Pacific, where countries share similar challenges and opportunities in developing their tourism industries.
The SPTO Pacific Tourism Meeting brings together representatives from member countries to discuss common concerns, share experiences and explore ways to grow tourism.
Through stronger partnerships, Pacific nations hope to develop tourism that supports economic growth, creates opportunities for local communities and contributes to social development across the region.
