A major development is unfolding in North Malaita as the Solomon Islands–Australia Partnership strengthens its support for indigenous led tourism. The partnership has teamed up with Aromawan Pilgrimage, a locally owned cultural and spiritual tourism site, to expand its bungalow facilities and welcome more visitors to Malaita Province.

The support provided through the Solomon Islands–Australia Partnership will enable Aromawan to upgrade and extend its tourist bungalows, increasing visitor capacity and improving comfort for guests.
This investment aims to boost local tourism, create new income opportunities, and uplift surrounding communities.

It also reinforces Australia’s role as Solomon Islands’ nambawan economic partner, backing rural development and indigenous enterprises across the country.
The bungalow expansion is expected to support local families through employment and small business opportunities, strengthen cultural tourism by showcasing Malaita’s unique spiritual heritage, and enhance rural livelihoods—particularly for women and youth involved in hospitality, guiding, and cultural activities.
This collaboration stands as a strong example of Australia’s continued commitment to grassroots, community driven development in Solomon Islands.

By supporting indigenous tourism operators like Aromawan, the partnership helps build sustainable economic pathways while preserving cultural identity and empowering rural communities.
